Carl Gustaf Olin

In Memorial

4-14-1948 – 8-21-2014. Carl passed away at the VA Hospital while battling cancer, on August 21, 2014. Born in Minneapolis, MN, he was the fourth son on John and Genieve Olin. In 1957 he moved with his family to Mohawk, OR. where he attended grade school. In the early 1960’s Carl moved with his parents to Arizona, living in Phoenix, Apache Junction and Mesa, where he graduated from Mesa High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. While on night patrol, Carl was wounded by mortar shell and sent to Japan for treatment. He was then sent back to Phoenix as a wounded veteran, and remained under VA medical treatment until discharge. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Carl married Barbara Cartmell and they had one son, Jonathan William, born 1990. They lived in Phoenix where Carl worked in the construction business, namely Agate Construction Co. His wife, Barbara died in 2003. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Theodore and David. He is survived by his son Jonathan and wife Sarah (Edgars), his Brother-In-Law William (Rick) Cartmell, and his Mother and Father-In-Law, Susan and William Cartmell. He will be interred in a private service at the VA National Memorial Cemetery, Phoenix at a later date. There will be a Celebration of Life Service at New Covenant Lutheran Church, 15152 Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd., Scottsdale, AZ on Saturday, September 13th at 10:00.
