Longtime resident, David Gardner, passed away on November 13, 2013. Born in West Virginia in 1947 his family came to Phoenix a year later. David attended Griffith Elementary, North High, and ASU. In 1972 he purchased a neighborhood cocktail lounge and was proud each of the many times the Dilly Dally was voted Phoenix’s number one “dive bar”. The Dilly gave longtime residents that feeling of “old Phoenix” as they would drop by to watch a game, play shuffleboard, shoot pool, throw darts, or catch up on neighborhood gossip. Many of these patrons have been coming to the Dilly for as many years as he has owned it and, like his employees, were like family to him. He enjoyed going to the dunes with his sand buggy. David will be greatly missed. Services will be held Friday November 22, 2013 2:00 p.m. at Paradise Sunset Chapel Funeral Home. Contributions may be made to the Arizona Kidney Foundation.
