
Joyce Elaine Schroeder, 81, of Scottsdale, passed away November 28, 2012 with her 3 sons at her side. Born Joyce Elaine Armistead January 2, 1931 in Fort Stockton, Texas, to Mabin and Georgeanne Armistead, Joyce was the middle child among 5 sisters and 2 brothers. Joyce graduated from Fort Stockton High School, after which she attended Fashion Design School in Dallas. It is there she met James “Jim” Beird, a commercial artist, whom she married in 1951. Following Jim’s passing in 1968, Joyce worked as a travel agent in Matteson, Illinois. It was there she met John Schroeder, an industrialist, whom she married in 1974. After John’s retirement, they moved from Chicago and settled in the Phoenix area in 1978. Their shared interests in golf, art and travel provided a wonderful life. John passed away in 2010, at 98, in Scottsdale. Joyce is survived by her sons David (Phoenix), Kermit (Dallas), and James Michael “Mike” (Chicago) and their wives. Her 6 grandchildren, Cody, Nathan, Tyler, Jim, Allyssa and Meridith, all grown, have all shared very special times with their “Gran”. Joyce is also survived by sisters Bonnell, Nancy and brother John, and many nieces and nephews. Joyce will share her final resting alongside her husband John in Midland, Texas. A memorial service is planned for Spring, 2013; the date has yet to be announced. Donations can be made to Hospice of the Valley, Eckstein Center in Scottsdale, Arizona.
