91 of Phoenix, AZ, passed away April 21, 2013. Born in Claypool, AZ on March 11, 1922, Ray survived his beloved wife Leota R.. He served in the Army-Air Corp. in WWII, and then continued on to the rank of Naval Commander in the Navy Reserves. An educator, Ray taught at Carver H.S., Camelback H.S., Phx C.C., & Scotts. C.C.. He continued into administration in the PUHS and Issac Districts. He was Co-founding Director of Anytown AZ. He dedicated his life to fighting for civil rights and the advancement of Hispanic rights receiving numerous awards and recognition for his achievements. He served many of his later years as a Board of Director member for the AZ Foundation for the Handicapped. He remained active in many community groups and volunteering. He enjoyed surrounding himself with the many friends whom he had made at the City of Phx. Devonshire Senior Center Program. His 6 children: Deborah Flowers, Rebecca Flowers, Raymond Flowers, Dr. Roderick Flowers, Kathryn, and Gregory Flowers survive him. He leaves 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He has 5 surviving siblings and numerous loving nephews and nieces. A Celebration of his Life will be at Devonshire Parks and Recreation Center, 2802 E. Devonshire Ave., Phx, AZ 85016; Sat., May, 4th, at 12:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Devonshire Senior Center Site Council, 2802 E. Devonshire Ave., Phx, AZ 85016.
